3. How do I submit commercial construction plans and how does the plan review process work?

Three sets of plans are submitted to the License & Inspection Department, they will then forward a copy to the Fire Department for review and approval.

Once the plans are approved, a construction permit is issued. An 80% and 100% inspection is required. After the 100% inspection, a certificate of occupancy is issued for a fee of $150.

$150 for first 10,000 square feet, then $0.05 for every square foot thereafter.

The fee is $150 and it is good for the life of the building if the occupancy does not change.

6. What system testing does the Fire Department witness?

The Department witnesses sprinkler systems, alarm systems, fire pump, and underground piping.

For sprinkler plans, submit three sets of plans to the Fire Department. After review and approval, one set will stay with the Fire Department, one set goes to the License and Inspections Department, and one set goes to the job site.
