CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority to open new Homeless Resource Center
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority is launching a new project to support homeless assistance programs in the Augusta area. This effort responds to the need for improved access to resources for community members experiencing issues of housing instability.
Beginning Monday, March 6, 2017, the agency will begin operations of the Marion Barnes Resource Center for the Homeless, located at 730 E. Boundary Street. The EOA receives funding support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, in partnership with Augusta Housing and Community Development Department and the partner agencies of the local Continuum of Care for the Homeless. This new Resource Center for the Homeless will serve as the community’s common point of access for assessment, service and referral for persons experiencing issues of housing instability.
This facility will include coordination of services available through the partner agencies of the Continuum of Care, access to mainstream resources through partnership with the local Department of Family and Children Services, and diversion and prevention assistance – when appropriate – to ensure as many persons avoid episodes of homelessness as possible. The introduction of this project, referred to as a “centralized intake and assessment project,” is in line with regulatory requirements set forth by the HEARTH Act requiring communities that utilize Emergency Solution Grant (ESG) and Continuum of Care (CoC) Grant funding through HUD to provide a coordinated or centralized system of care for persons experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.
